We are led by the session, not any one person. The session is made up of our elected pastors (teaching elders) and ruling elders. A Presbyterian form of church government stresses accountability and plurality. To learn more about a Presbyterian form of government check out this article.

Lead Pastor

Jon Stoddard

Hi! I grew up in Colorado, but discovered Utah has all the stuff that makes Colorado great–I can ski in the winter and ride my bike and hike in the summer. I started out my career by studying Computer Science in college, but joined the Marines full-time when I graduated. While the Marines initially sent me to Hawaii, I soon found myself in much hotter and challenging places like Iraq. But it was through those dark times that God showed he would hold me fast, even when I couldn’t hold much together.

As I was getting out of the Marines, I got married to my wonderful wife Lisa, a nurse. After settling down in Denver, I realized God had used my time in Iraq to call me to full-time ministry. So we packed up and moved to Philadelphia so I could go back to school and learn fun things like Greek grammar and Hebrew verbs and how to be a pastor.

Lisa and I have four kids that keep our lives exciting.

We moved to Utah in 2013 and I can’t think of a better place to serve as a Pastor. We’ve been blessed by having our parents move close by and Utah is our home. One of my favorite things is sitting down with people and wrestling with tough questions about faith and God. In fact, I wrote a book that tries to answer some of the common questions I get about church. I always enjoy meeting new people and would love to connect with you!

I’m also interested in the topic of church leadership and have written a book that.

Pastoral Fellow

Hudson Agudelo

Olá! I was born and raised in Brazil, where family, faith, and friends (and plenty of soccer) shaped much of my early life. I married my wonderful wife, Daniela, and together we’ve been blessed with two children—Timmy, who is full of energy and curiosity, and Liz, our newest joy.

Before coming to the U.S., I served in ministry in Brazil while also working as a personal trainer and CrossFit coach. In God’s kindness, He opened the door for us to pursue further training in Lafayette, Indiana, where I am currently working toward my M.Div. at Faith Bible Seminary. During that time I also served as a pastoral intern, working in children’s ministries and biblical counseling. Those years have been both stretching and sweet, deepening my love for God’s Word and for walking with people through life’s challenges.

Now I have the joy of serving here in Utah at Jordan Valley Church. My heart is to see people grow in their love for Christ and to help them experience how the gospel speaks to every part of life. I especially enjoy counseling, teaching, and equipping others to follow Jesus in their everyday struggles. It’s also a gift to connect with families in our church in Spanish and Portuguese.

When I’m not studying, teaching, or meeting with people, you’ll probably find me on the soccer field, at the gym, or spending time outdoors with my family. Utah has quickly become home for us, and I’m excited to see what God continues to do here.

My favorite bible verse is in Matthew 11:28-30

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
